The Revelation of Jesus Christ

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which ^aGod gave Him to ^bshow to His bond-servants, ^cthe things which must soon take place; and He sent and ^{▼▼Or signified}communicated it ^eby His angel to His bond-servant ^fJohn, 2 who testified to ^gthe word of God and to ^hthe testimony of Jesus Christ, everything that he saw. 3 ⁱBlessed is the one who reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy and ^{▼▼Or follow}keep the things which are written in it; ^kfor the time is near.

Message to the Seven Churches

4 ^lJohn to ^mthe seven churches that are in ⁿAsia: ^oGrace to you and peace from ^pHim who is, and who was, and who ^{▼▼Or is coming}is to come, and from ^rthe ^{▼▼Possibly a symbolic reference to the Holy Spirit in His fullness, or to seven key angels}seven spirits who are before His throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, ^tthe faithful witness, the ^ufirstborn of the dead, and the ^vruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who ^wloves us and released us from our sins by His blood-- 6 and He made us into a ^xkingdom, ^ypriests to ^{▼▼Or God and His Father
,} ^aaHis God and Father-- ^abto Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 ^acBehold, He is coming with the clouds, and ^adevery eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will ^aemourn over Him. ^{▼▼Or Yes. Amen.}So it is to be. Amen.

8 “I am ^agthe Alpha and the Omega,” says the ^ahLord God, “ ^aiwho is and who was and who ^{▼▼Or is coming}is to come, the Almighty.”

The Patmos Vision

9 ^akI, John, your ^albrother and ^amfellow participant in the tribulation and ^ankingdom and ^{▼▼Or steadfastness
,} ^apperseverance in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos ^aqbecause of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was ^arin the ^{▼▼Or spirit}Spirit on ^atthe Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice ^aulike the sound of a trumpet, 11 saying, “ ^avWrite ^{▼▼Or in a book}on a scroll what you see, and send it to the ^axseven churches: to ^ayEphesus, ^azSmyrna, ^baPergamum, ^bbThyatira, ^bcSardis, ^bdPhiladelphia, and ^beLaodicea.”

12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And after turning I saw ^bfseven golden lampstands; 13 and ^bgin the middle of the lampstands I saw one ^bhlike ^{▼▼Or the Son of Man}a son of man, ^bjclothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and ^bkwrapped around the chest with a golden sash. 14 His head and His ^blhair were white like white wool, like snow; and ^bmHis eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His ^bnfeet were like ^{▼▼Or fine brass}burnished bronze when it has been heated to a glow in a furnace, and His ^bpvoice was like the sound of many waters. 16 In His right hand He held ^bqseven stars, and out of His mouth came a ^brsharp two-edged sword; and His ^bsface was like ^btthe sun ^{▼▼Lit shines}shining in its strength.

17 When I saw Him, I ^bvfell at His feet like a dead man. And He ^bwplaced His right hand on me, saying, “ ^bxDo not be afraid; ^byI am the first and the last, 18 and the ^bzliving One; and I ^{▼▼Lit became
,} ^cbwas dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have ^ccthe keys of death and of Hades. 19 Therefore ^cdwrite ^cethe things which you have seen, ^{▼▼Or both the things}and the things which are, and the things which will take place ^cgafter these things. 20 As for the ^chmystery of the ^ciseven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the ^cjseven golden lampstands: the ^ckseven stars are the angels of ^clthe seven churches, and the seven ^cmlampstands are the seven churches.
